A free educational calculator

See how contributions add up.

Separate employee and employer amounts using a pay basis and percentages you choose. This illustration does not check your scheme’s rules or recommend a contribution level.

Use the pay amount your scheme applies contributions to. It may differ from your total salary. Both rates here use that same pay basis.

Use your scheme’s gross employee rate, including any tax relief already in that rate. No extra tax-relief top-up is added here.

Your illustration

Enter the pay basis and both rates to see the split. Editing any assumption clears the old illustration.

Amounts stay in this page’s memory. Reloading clears them. No amounts are sent, added to the URL or stored.

Check the basis before the percentage

Your scheme may use pensionable pay or qualifying earnings rather than your whole salary. Ask your employer or scheme which pay basis and gross rates apply. This calculator uses the same entered pay basis for both sides; it does not apply earnings bands, legal minimums or employer matching rules.

No additional tax relief, Income Tax, National Insurance, salary sacrifice, annual allowance, fees, growth or retirement benefits are calculated. A gross employee contribution can differ from the deduction shown on a payslip. Numeric limits keep the model bounded; they are not legal contribution limits.
