Gather the clues Write down one old employer and approximate employment dates. Keep the scheme name from old paperwork, if known. Keep alternative employer names as clues, not confirmed matches.Find the official contact Check the government contact finder or the provider’s own website. Record where you found the contact and when you checked it. Keep personal identification out of public search boxes.Follow up and record Ask whether the contact handles the named scheme. Use the provider’s verified identification process. Record the enquiry date, reply and next action. Mark membership confirmed only when you have provider evidence. Label any figure with its type and statement date. What the checklist does It keeps contact discovery separate from confirmation of a pension record. It does not search provider databases, establish entitlement or recommend a transfer.
For the contact finder’s scope, see GOV.UK’s Pension Tracing Service . Read our step-by-step guide for the wider process.
