What it means

The government tracing service finds contacts; it does not confirm your membership or a value. Confirmation is a separate enquiry with the relevant organisation.

An example

A directory search returns a contact. Mark that as “contact found”, then record a later reply separately. This stops a promising lead from being mistaken for a confirmed pension.

Use it in your pension list

Keep the term beside the original source, rather than using it to fill a gap in your knowledge. If the scheme wording is different, save the wording and ask for clarification. An unknown field is easier to correct than a confident guess.
