A directory step in your search
The service finds pension scheme contact details. You need an employer or pension provider name. You can look for your own scheme or someone else’s if they have given permission. It does not return a personal pension balance or confirm membership.

Prepare a small set of clues
Write the name as you remember it, then keep any alternative spelling or former trading name in a separate note. A confusing search is easier to revisit when you can see exactly which name you tried. There is no need to invent a company number or precise date to fill a gap.
Start from GOV.UK using the source link below. Avoid assuming an advert in search results is the government service. If the name is unclear, pause and compare it with an old payslip or letter before treating a result as a match.
Treat the result as a contact lead
Record the scheme name, the contact source and the date. Your next action is an enquiry through a verified channel. Ask the administrator to confirm whether they hold a record relating to your employment.
If there are several plausible schemes, create separate notes for the leads. Do not add a balance or tick membership confirmed just because one result resembles your employer. All Pensions can hold an unconfirmed record while you investigate.
If you cannot find a useful result
Keep the unsuccessful search in your notes. Try a better-supported alternative name when you find one, or ask an old employer contact for the scheme name. MoneyHelper’s tracing guide offers other places to look. An empty search does not settle whether you ever had a pension.
