What it means

A workplace scheme and a personally arranged pension can both fall within the main private pension types. The employer name alone is not a complete scheme identifier.

An example

If two old letters show different scheme names, keep both names in your notes and ask whether they refer to the same arrangement. Do not merge uncertain records.

Use it in your pension list

Keep the term beside the original source, rather than using it to fill a gap in your knowledge. If the scheme wording is different, save the wording and ask for clarification. An unknown field is easier to correct than a confident guess.
