The pensions dashboard: what it will show you, and what it won’t

Pension schemes must connect to the dashboards system by 31 October 2026. Here is what the free dashboard is expected to show when it opens, what it leaves out, and what you can do now.

The short version

A free, government-backed dashboard is being built that will show most of your pensions in one place. It is not open to the public yet.

When it opens it will tell you where your pensions are. It will not write to a scheme for you, and it will not do the follow-up that comes next.

What happens on 31 October 2026

Pension schemes and providers have been connecting their records to a central system in stages. The law sets 31 October 2026 as the final date for them to connect.

That date is for schemes and providers. It is not the day you can log in.

When can I use it?

No public launch date has been announced. On current plans the MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard is expected to open to the public in the 2027/28 financial year, and the pensions industry is to be given six months’ notice of the date.

An update on launch plans is expected around the October 2026 deadline. This page will be checked again after that.

What it is expected to show

The dashboard is designed to bring basic information from many schemes onto one screen.

  • Which schemes hold a pension for you.
  • A value, and an estimate of retirement income, where the scheme supplies them.
  • Who to contact at each scheme.
  • Your State Pension.
  • Possible matches: pensions that might be yours, which you then confirm with the scheme.

What it will not do

Some things are outside what the dashboard is built for.

  • It will not move money, transfer a pension or let you change anything.
  • Occupational schemes with fewer than 100 members do not have to connect, so a very small scheme may not appear.
  • It will not contact a scheme for you. A possible match still needs you to get in touch.
  • It is for the person the pensions belong to. It is not built for a family member or executor to use on someone’s behalf.

What you can do now

You do not have to wait. The same steps work today, and they are free.

When the dashboard opens, you will be checking it against a list you already have, not starting from nothing.

  • List every job you have had. Each one is a possible pension.
  • Use the free government Pension Tracing Service to get each scheme’s contact details.
  • Write to each scheme and ask what they hold for you.
  • Keep the replies together, with dates.
