First identify the pension record
After a provider finds your record, MoneyHelper recommends checking that your contact details are correct so important information can reach you. If membership has not been confirmed, begin with a record enquiry rather than assuming a change request can be applied.
Keep the employer, scheme and member reference linked in your private records. Several letters from the same provider can concern different arrangements; ask which record a reply covers.
Use the official change process
Find the current official website and its instructions for changing personal details. Ask the scheme which secure channel and evidence it requires. All Pensions does not send a change request, verify identity or update provider systems for you.
A change of address and a change of name may require different information. Describe the change to the scheme, follow its instructions and keep a note of what you submitted. Do not upload identity documents to this site.
Keep submitted and confirmed separate
Write down the request date and the channel used. Leave the update marked as requested until the scheme confirms what changed. If there are several records, ask whether the confirmation applies to all of them.
For a fictional example, someone asks a provider to update two old employment records. A reply naming only one reference is evidence for that record; the second remains a follow-up question. A sent email alone is not confirmation of either update.
- Check the confirmation refers to the intended record.
- Keep the original confirmation with your private paperwork.
- Follow up through the official route if the scope is unclear.
Keep the organiser’s limits clear
Use your own private filing system for addresses, identity evidence and member references. The Passport stores employment clues and a short evidence note in this tab, with no provider connection or private document vault.
Correcting contact details is an administrative task. It does not require you to choose investments or transfer a pension. Use the document checklist when you need to understand the paperwork that arrives afterwards.
