List the schemes you need to check
MoneyHelper’s lost-pension guidance advises checking contact details after a record has been found. Start with confirmed pension records and their current official contacts; a familiar provider name alone may not identify the particular scheme or policy.
Ask how each record should be updated
Use the scheme’s current official personal-details instructions. Your own private checklist can identify the intended record, the requested address change, the submission date and the reply. Keep evidence outside the browser organiser.
For a fictional example, two employment periods might have records with the same provider. A confirmation for one member reference does not establish that the second was updated. Ask about the scope of the reply rather than marking both done.
Do not assume one update reaches every organisation
An employer, provider, scheme administrator and government service are different contacts. Treat each confirmation as evidence only for the record it names. Redirection of post can be useful for your own filing, but it is not confirmation that a pension scheme changed its records.
- Which scheme record is the update intended for?
- Which official secure channel and evidence does it require?
- Does its reply name all intended records?
- Which requests still need a response?
Keep addresses and identity evidence private
The contact-update guide helps you distinguish submitted from confirmed changes. The browser Passport does not store a change-of-address instruction, upload identity documents or update provider systems. Keep short notes only; keep actual addresses, identifiers and evidence in your private filing.
A contact update is an administrative task. It does not require a pension transfer or investment choice. If the move also changes country, use the overseas guide for the separate residence, payment and tax questions rather than treating them as an address update.
